2009 is
a very special year for the Mini as in August we will be celebrating the
Mini's 50th Birthday. The
focus of the celebrations will be the combined International Mini Meeting
and Mini 50 show in Cofton Park, Birmingham, right opposite Longbridge,
birthplace of the Mini 50 years beforehand.
Birmingham Mini
Owners Club, organisers of the IMM/Mini 50 show, asked Mini Bandits if we
would organise an auction for the IMM in aid of the charity of our choice.
For the past six years we have organised the Ace Cafe Italian Job Charity
Night in aid of The Italian Job supported charities. Whilst the idea of
being involved with Mini 50 really appealed, we did not feel we could
organise two charity auctions in one year, and we could not drop the Ace
Cafe night, because we all love the Ace, and have had a tremendous amount
of support from Owner Mark Wilsmore over the years.
Having discussed
this with Mark, we have come up with an even better solution. The IMM
can't come to the Ace Cafe, so the Ace Cafe are planning to be at
Birmingham instead. The Ace Cafe frequently get involved with
motoring events, e.g. setting up displays at events such as the Race Retro
Show, so in a similar way we will be recreating The Ace Cafe at the IMM/Mini
50 and holding our Ace Cafe Italian Job Charity Night there.
More news as it
comes, both here and on the IMM 2009/Mini
50 website.
We are hoping to
have some fantastic items up for auction to mark this special
event, including a car (subject to us getting enough support
from traders sponsoring the parts/labour we need). If any traders would
like to talk to us about this project please email ace@minibandits.com.
